As part of our LA excursion, PB agreed to eat at Bottega Louie (I’ve been wanting to dine here for a while now but have only visited their bakery sections for macarons prior).
We arrived at approximately 8 p.m. on a busy Saturday night. As I entered the busy restaurant I found my way to the hostess table and put my name down to which the hostess replied “It’ll be about 15-20 minutes, when your table is ready we will come get you” and smiled. So I went on my way to find PB and dragged him around checking out all of the desserts, gift boxes, the open kitchen, and finally to the bar. I waited for 10 minutes with no service. After about 15 minutes waiting at the bar I was tapped on a shoulder by a beautiful woman and asked if I was Ms. Liu and informed that my table was ready.
Really? They remembered who I was? That was amazing! I was one of about 1000 asian girls in that restaurant that night. In any case, PB and I were seated after about 30 minutes of total wait time and started to salivate at the menu.
We ordered the Portebello Fries, Arugula Salad, Brussel Spouts with Pistacios, Trenne Pasta, and a half artichoke pizza with half proscuitto (I forgot the name).
First my Raspberry Italian Soda came – it was beautiful and topped with a Vanilla Bean Whipped Cream that was to die for.
I forgot to take a picture of anything else, but they first served us bread that came in the same of some vine leaves and butter. Then the Portebello Fries came which were pretty darn great. No wonder they are known for those.
Our Arugula Salad came out and it was good. Nothing to rave about. And our Pizza came, the artichoke was pretty great. But it was so much food we ended up eating 2 slices and packed the rest.
By the time the Trenne Pasta came out I was already full so I had a couple of bites and had that packed as well. The Trenne is pretty mediocre in my book. I don’t think it’s something I would ever order again but it is definitely different than any pasta I’ve had. Oh, I did want to mention that our waitress was very nice and quite attentive for it being such a busy night. She made sure to split our salad and pasta so we didn’t have to worry about passing our plates to share our dishes and was always on top of PB’s diet coke refills.
At the end of our meal I was stuffed. I wanted to try the giant raspberry macaron with vanilla filling but they were out by the time we finished dinner and I didn’t have enough room to eat the biegnet so we left without dessert this round.
All in all I’m glad I finally got to diner at BL but I don’t think I’ll be back anytime soon. Besides the ambiance BL is overrated in my book.
